Golf at Vall d’Or Majorca

Just returned from 9 days in Porto Colom in Majorca. This was a chance for quality family time with my wife, 23 month old son, and parents in this small scenic port resort which is a real hidden gem. Whilst away I was fortunate enough to play two rounds at Vall d’Or Golf (http://www.valldorgolfclub.com/golfclub/intro_en.php ).   It was also a chance to give the Bunker clothing a Mediterranean outing.

The course was just on the outskirts of town in the overlooking hills. Built in 1986 and originally a 9 hole course, it was transformed into an 18 hole venue in 1993.   The two 9s are of real contrast. The front 9 winds its way through the hills providing a real test of accuracy and shot choice. The second 9, whilst less hilly, still provides a good test to all golfers.   Small greens, well-guarded by traps and other hazards, make ball striking and club selection key.  Quality of the greens was excellent on both our trips.

Although driving the ball well, approach play and my short game provided a real challenge as you can see from the scores and stats below.  Too many putts, missed greens and failed up and down attempts.

The course has some stunning holes. The 3rd hole, a medium length par 5, provided a panoramic view of the coast and the whole of the Porto Colom resort.   The hole snaked its way down into the valley and provided a risk / reward opportunity for longer hitters to attempt to hit the tiny green in two.

The club house had a terrace balcony overlooking a number of the holes on the back 9 and the putting green.   It provided an enjoyable setting for some lunch and a well-earned ice cold ‘Cerveza’ after the game.

If you are heading to Majorca, I would recommend a visit ,especially if staying in the Porto Colom area.
