Bryson Explains Breakdown In Relationship With Tiger
Bubba Watson spoke at this week's LIV event claiming that it was the media who were drumming up fall-outs between players and that he would be playing the Par 3 contest at Augusta with Cam Young and Jason Day.
Rory McIlroy has given a different point of view, explaining that he and Sergio Garcia's friendship had suffered, and Bryson DeChambeau this week spoke about how he and Tiger Woods' relationship had gone down a similar path.
Once upon a time they were quite close and they were even brief Ryder Cup partners at the matches in Paris five years ago
Asked if anybody had acted differently towards him since his move to Greg Norman's circuit, he said: “Yeah, definitely, I’m sure you can guess who. I’m not going to throw anyone under the bus. He’s been a great friend. I texted him on his birthday. It is what it is.
"He has his viewpoints on it and thinks we’re potentially hurting his record. If anything, nobody is ever going to touch his record. That’s just it, that’s the bottom line. There’s a chance to grow the game even more and I hope one day he’ll see the vision that we all have out here.”
If you had to guess then you would imagine that Tiger's record isn't his fundamental problem. The former US Open champ added that there were no problems with other players, such as those living and practising near him.
“I was always kind of a guy who did it myself so I didn’t have too much contact with too many players but we’re cordial. I’ve talked with Jordan (Spieth) numerous times at Dallas National, anybody that’s out there, Will (Zalatoris) I’ve had a couple of conversations with but no problems.”
Along with that US Open win in 2020 the American, who is still involved in a lawsuit, picked up eight wins on Tour before the move in June which was reported to be in the region of a whopping $125m. But he has no regrets, not that it would be his style to admit such a thing.
“I miss nothing. I mean, I love the fans, I love the people who came to support me. I loved all that. We’re starting to get the crowds out here, slowly but surely. People are starting to get what the model is and people are starting to like the teams a bit. From what I can see, the general consensus is things are moving in a more positive direction and I’m pleased with that.”
