2021 Open Heroes: Marcel Siem

Players talk about peaking in their third week of three before taking some time out – the German is playing in his 14th straight week at the Open. He wouldn’t have had this week pencilled in but he then won on the Challenge Tour so he then headed to Kent rather than for a very well-earned week off.

For a 20-something a heaving schedule is pretty full, Siem turned 41 on the Thursday of the Open. He celebrated with a glass of red wine in the players’ lounge over dinner with his caddy.

Siem is a breath of fresh air, he shows a bit of emotion and he’s very nicely down to earth and the next couple of days could be the biggest of his lengthy career.

I'm playing well. I won last week. I have to stay humble. I lost my card. I'm coming from nowhere and I will definitely try my best to compete, but I can't give any predictions. I'm very calm at the moment, focused. My game is there. Putting is good.”

And then, next week, take some time off..
