Welcome to Team Bunker Gary Boyd
It's with great pleasure we can announce that we will be sponsoring Gary Boyd for the next 12 months on the Challenge Tour. Gary has long been thought of as one of the big talents in the game and he’ll be looking to get back to the main stage next year. The 34-year-old has always been linked with his good friend Ian Poulter and he spent a month practising with his Woburn sidekick in the States in 2008 which then played a big part in his Challenge Tour win in Kenya a few months later. Come the end of the 2009 season he had earned himself a place on the European Tour.
In his rookie season he enjoyed a fantastic end to his campaign when he lost a play-off at the Czech Open, losing to Peter Hanson who forced his way into the Ryder Cup team on the back of that win. The week after Celtic Manor Boyd finished in 4th spot to earn his biggest pay-day as Martin Kaymer landed his third straight victory. Boyd’s season ended with two more top 10s and a debut at the season-ending Dubai World Championship and on the fringes of the top 100 in the world.
There were three seasons spent on the main tour before dropping back down to the Challenge Tour though he regained his place at the top table in 2016, the highlight of which was another top 10 in the Czech Republic.
He’s also played in four majors, three Open Championships and the 2010 US Open at Pebble Beach when Graeme McDowell triumphed. He made the cut at Royal St George’s the following year.
Gary has been using the Covid period to regroup and get ready to attack the Challenge Tour next season. We will be keeping you regularly updated on his progress over the year.
Gary, who has an attachment with Woburn, has also very kindly offered to host a few few golf days for us next year. This will only be open to members of our golf club Club Bunker.
