NAPGC National Finals
NAPGC NATIONAL COMPETITION
Throughout the winter months me and my mates have been representing our golf club as part of a team in an NAPGC national competition called the Gordon Forster Cup. You enter as a team of 4 players and are drawn against other clubs within the region, its a knockout format where on the day 2 play away and 2 play at home and the combined Stableford score of the whole team determines the winner. So after starting back in October and getting through four rounds we managed to get to the national Finals being played at Cherwell Edge Golf Club.
FINALS DAY
The Sunday morning started with a 2 hour drive to get there with plenty of time to go through our warm up routine, A large fry up, lots of coffee and a bucket of balls on the range! It was a mix of nerves and excitement whilst waiting to tee off but once we got going I really enjoyed it. The course was in great condition with some tricky risk/reward holes. After a slow start and a lost ball I did not have a good front nine going out with 14 points, but I managed to get it back together with a run of pars and a birdie on the back nine to come in with 19 points making a total of 33. Our team captain had gone out first and he had scored 37 but with a pair of 38’s already in from another team we didn’t think we could win it. Sitting and waiting for the rest of the team to come in we found out that the leading groups 3rd player had only scored 28 whilst our 3rd player came in with another 33points, so we were only 1 point behind with the last team players in the course.
We watched our last player come up the 18th fairway and hole out with a score of 37 points against 32 from the other team so we had won!! Needless to say we celebrated in the clubhouse and then once back home in the local pub until we were thrown out. It was a great day of golf and was so amazing to be winning with a team made up of my mates.
