Is Patrick Reed in danger of missing the Ryder Cup?

Last week Patrick Reed pulled out of the Wyndham Championship in order to take a break, this week he withdrew from the Northern Trust on Thursday morning with an ankle injury.

Reed, who has played in the last three Ryder Cups, was ranked ninth on the standings going into Liberty Island and he will now need either a big week at next week's BMW Championship or one of Steve Stricker's six picks following the Tour Championship in early September.

The 31-year-old's record is 7-3-2 in 12 matches despite a poor display in Paris but he still boasts a perfect singles record and he likely remains a key part of the American effort to win back the cup.

Should he make the side the question would then be who he would partner – last time out he lost both matches alongside Tiger Woods after he and Jordan Spieth were split up so Spieth could partner up with Justin Thomas.

He then lit up the post-match chat with his feelings on the split: "The issue's obviously with Jordan not wanting to play with me. I don't have any issue with Jordan. When it comes right down to it, I don't care if I like the person I'm paired with or if the person likes me as long as it works and it sets up the team for success. He and I know how to make each other better. We know how to get the job done."
