How Close Are We To A Return To Golf In The UK?
Don't know about you, but here at Bunker Mentality we're missing golf right now than ever before. It doesn't help by wall to wall sunshine, light breezes, blue skies, and pictures of closed golf courses that look in absolutely perfect condition. Let's face it, we all know that once we're allowed back out on the fairways, the weather will change. It'll be raining and blowing a gale, but will it stop us from getting out there? Probably not!
What makes it worse is that other countries are slowly re-introducing golf into their lives, with fairly strict guidelines for the time being (which is totally understandable), but it is at least a step in the right direction. The closest to the UK to have taken these steps are Jersey, who could possibly be showing the path for the UK to follow suit.
In line with government guidelines, tee times are strategically placed apart to prevent both crowding on the course, and also in communal areas such as the car park. Only the golf course is open, with even the putting green and driving range closed. There is a course marshal who is there to ensure that all safety rules are followed; basically they are the Sheriff and their word is final. But, people are out playing this beautiful game that we all love and miss.
Even President Trump is missing our great game of golf....and not just because his golf courses are taking a hit in lack of money! He posed the question this week asking why golf shouldn't be played, listing benefits such as social distancing and exercise which are all things that the world health experts have said that we still need to take advantage of. For once I think we can all agree that Mr President is absolutely correct.
One way or another, our fingers are crossed that we all make it out on to that first tee very soon. In the meantime, carry on staying safe and keep as positive as you can.
