Golf in Staffordshire with Hazlemere GC friends
When our Saturday playing partner Garry moved North, to be nearer his children, we vowed to meet up and play together whenever possible. Last week saw us travel and stay and play two rounds at his home club Ingestre GC and Aston Wood, Sutton Coldfield.
Ingestre was in good condition and Paul and Trevor certainly took a liking to the greens, taking an early lead. Despite my poor form at the moment, Garry and I were dovetailing well taking a 2Up lead but ending up A/S and all to play for on the B9.
With us 1 down on the last tee, we hoped to sneak a cheeky draw, but Paul played a majestic 100y bunker shot to give him a birdie chance, Garry and I could only muster a par and the match was theirs.
Next day saw us travel to Aston Wood, nearer Birmingham. None of us had ever played the course, but suffice to say we really enjoyed it. Paul and I were paired together and lost the F9 easily with Trevor on fire, 5 under his handicap!
It was certainly a thinking your way round track with doglegs, water and very punishing rough for anything wayward. The weather brightened and I think my Pink shirt dazzled the opposition enough for us to take advantage and two nett birdies from me on the concluding holes were enough to take the B9.
Altogether a nice short break away with friends, two nice courses and something to be repeated sooner rather than waiting for next summer.
