Caddy shoots 57 in skins game
You won’t be familiar with the name Jhared Hack but last week he shot one of the rounds of the year – not that it counted for much other than some brief notoriety on Twitter.
The 31-year-old was playing in a skins game at Las Vegas GC when he played his first 14 holes in a ridiculous 13 under before then having a bit of a wobble, relatively speaking to what had gone on before.
In the end his 10 birdies, three eagles, four pars and a bogey added up to a 57 on a par-72 course that measured 6,339 yards – needless to say he picked up pretty much every skin and came away with around $220 for his efforts.
"It's just a muni, it's a straightforward course,” said Hack who once won the Western Amateur after beating Rickie Fowler and Dustin Johnson in matchplay. “Greens slope back to front, they're soft. It's a course where we go out Tuesdays and Thursdays and shoot 63, 64 pretty regularly. Once a month or so somebody flirts with 59. It was just one of those days where all the 15-footers when in, instead of just half of them."
And it could have been even sillier had he knocked in a short one at the penultimate hole.
"It was probably the hardest hole out there, like 200 yards with a back-left pin. I had like a five-and-a-half footer for birdie, downhill left to right. An easy putt, the greens are slow. I hit a good, solid putt but pulled it just a bit, and it caught the high lip and rolled about two-and-a-half feet by. I marked it, did my routine and everything—I wasn't nervous at that point because I knew I was going to break 60, and I just kind of brain-farted and missed the comebacker."
Hack turned pro after winning the Western Amateur in 2007 and played on the Korn Ferry Tour for a few years but has not had status there since 2018. He now caddies at Shadow Creek, which is shut for the summer, as well as playing mini tours and local opens. He will head to Q School later in the year.
