Barton on Sea Golf Club
I got the chance to play some links golf on Monday with a visit to Barton on Sea. Myself and my Dad headed to the southwest corner of coastal Hampshire for an afternoon game. With our membership at Romsey Golf Club we get access to a number of other courses through a reciprocal arrangement and Barton is one of them.
It was also a new chance to wear some of my new Bunker clothing!
The weather heading down was fantastic, however when we arrived at the course we were greeted with a sea mist which had engulfed the course. This got worse at times during our round which made for some interesting guess work.
Barton has 3 nine hole courses. The main course is composed of the Becton and Needles courses to make 18 holes. The third nine is the easier stroller. The Becton, which is the original nine, is a true test of links golf with (normally) fantastic views of the Solent and the Isle of Wight. The Needles, which includes some tough par 3s, includes the signature finishing hole is a short par 3 (110 yards) to an island green in front of the club house. This is a great chance to show off your wedge play or look rather stupid by dunking it in the water TPC at Sawgrass style!!
I started off with a shocking 8, 6, 4 leaving me +7 after 3. I rallied to finish +8 which in the context of the visibility and the first 3 holes I was quite happy with.

Happy golfing
