Golf took another step in the right direction last week by allowing the pros to wear shorts on practice days and pro-am events. It seems that Ian Poulter is fully behind it and we think its a good idea, why not? The European Tour are showing really leadership here as the committee voted unanimously in favour of the change.
Lets face it we all wear shorts at the first chance we get, especially if we are on holiday somewhere with some sunshine so why shouldn’t the pros wear them as they are generally playing in warmer weather. Let’s face it they will all be wearing supper smart tailored shorts so standards of dress and style will be maintained and the tour will have helped open golf a little more to a wider audience. The great game needs to work even harder today to continue to attract new people and we don’t need things like shorts to be a big issue. As Poults says we need to make this game ‘fun’ for ‘everyone’ and the old ideas of dress code need to be updated to allow this to happen.
Our own Nino Tech golf shorts are very popular and lets face it its not often you can wear shorts here in the UK but given the chance most of us take it. Our shorts are made to look smart but stylish on the golf course, the fabric is the same as our trousers but the cut is slightly different as shorts need to be slightly tapered around the knees. Shorts make a great addition to the golfing wardrobe, especially as the can be worn casual when the shirts is not tucked into the waist.
It was apparently Darren Clarke who initiated the conversation with the European Tour as his team were suffering in the oppressive heat and humidity of the recent EurAsia Cup in Kuala Lumpur. He must have been confident he would have got the request accepted and the players appeared to have shorts in their cases already…
As for Poults shorts in the picture I’m not sure the two pale colours work together but thats just my style point?
Let us know what you think, do you wear shorts?
