PGA Tour star takes to Twitter for Open warm-up suggestions
The UK golf fan likes nothing more than when a PGA Tour player makes the most of a trip to the Open Championship. Quite often the American stars will jet in, have a quiet moan about the weather and go home but Joel Dahmen, who made his debut at Portrush in 2019, will be arriving early and looking to make the most of his visit.
Dahmen, who made his breakthrough win on the PGA Tour this year in the Dominican Republic, tweeted this: “Im arriving to the Open Championship a couple days early. What is a golf course that I must play on my way to Sandwich from Heathrow? Thanks for the help.”
Cue a flurry of messages and offers from clubs in the south and also some tour pros.
Ross Fisher suggested: If you want prep for the Open Championship then Royal Cinque Ports or Rye. If you just want to play, just stay in Surrey for the week. Swinley Forrest (hidden gem), Wentworth, Sunningdale, Berkshire, Woking, Walton Heath to name a few and there's plenty more.... Spoilt for choice.”
Dahmen then tweeted “Thanks for all the help! We have a couple rounds lined up.”
The favourites would be Royal Cinque Ports (Deal) which is just down the road and Princes which is adjacent to Royal St George’s. Either way Dahmen will likely have a few more UK fans when he makes the trip over.
