Grady to Norman – 'Hang your head in shame'
Once upon a time Wayne Grady and Greg Norman were part of a play-off for The Open in 1989 (pictured) – a threeball that ended with Mark Calcavecchia picking up the Claret Jug. Their careers have intertwined, they are only three years apart in age and both are major winners.
Up until now there hasn't been too much personal stuff against Greg Norman and the upcoming LIV Golf Invitational that the Aussie is heading up. But now Grady, who is as likeable as anyone in the game, had plenty to say on social media.
"From someone who has known Greg for 50 years Greg is only about Greg. He has been trying to take down the Tour for 30 years. The admiration I had for him, for what he has achieved and what he did for Australian golf is gone. For him to try and trivialise what the greats before him did to grow and create what the PGA Tour is today is an absolute disgrace.
"You should hang your head in shame Shark. I went to Jack Newton's memorial service yesterday and was surrounded by true professional golfers who believe in loyalty and history. GFY Shark."
You can work out the last bit for yourselves.
The first LIV Golf Invitational Series is set for Centurion Club in Hertfordshire on June 9 although we still don't know who will be there given that the PGA and DP World Tours have declined releases to their members.
Norman's recent media tour didn't exactly help the cause when he said of the murder of
Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi: "Everybody has owned up to it, right? It has been spoken about, from what I've read, going on what you guys reported. Take ownership, no matter what it is. Look, we've all made mistakes and you just want to learn from those mistakes and how you can correct them going forward."
This led to criticism from Amnesty International and a further statement from LIV explaining their stance in a slightly less clumsy way.
