What does the Saudi Super League look like?

We're still yet to hear about who'll be playing but at least we now when and where the new Super League will happen.

This week LIV Golf Investments, fronted by Greg Norman, announced the new LIV Golf Invitational Series. So we also now have a name.

Bizarrely, of sorts, the eight-event series will kick off at London's Centurion Club in June, the week before the US Open, with the prize pot carrying an eye-watering total purse of $25m, $20m in individual prizes and a whopping $5m for the leading three teams. In total there will be $255m on offer as well as the huge sums that the star players will be fetching.

After seven events there will be another $30m dished out for the top three individuals before the season ender which will be a team event ($50m). We recently had the richest prize pot in golf at The Players where there was $20m up for grabs so that will be exceeded in London in June.

The format will be three rounds, no cut with a shotgun start. There will be a maximum of 48 players with 12 teams of four, with the teams drafted each week.

The LIV Golf Invitational 2022 schedule will visit the following dates and locations:

June 9-11: Centurion – London, England
July 1-3: Pumpkin Ridge – Portland, USA
July 29-31: Trump National Bedminster – New Jersey, USA
Sep 2-4: The International – Boston, USA
Sep 16-18: Rich Harvest Farms – Chicago, USA
Oct 7-9: Stonehill – Bangkok, Thailand
Oct 14-16: Royal Greens – Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
Oct 28-30: Team Championship, TBC

Norman has claimed that there will still be a load of star names involved despite none of the big names siding with the new league.

“I’ve got to tell you, from a player’s perspective, the amount of response [has been] unbelievably positive. I’m talking about single-digit ranked players in the world, emailing me first thing this morning, just so excited to hear about what we have to say and what we’ve got.”
