Smith ties PGA Tour putting record

Most of us are thrilled by taking under 30 putts in a round of golf – Cam Smith equalled the PGA Tour record at TPC Southwind with just 18.

Twelve players have now achieved the same remarkable feat and the Aussie was round in 62 in this week’s WGC event. There were four hole-outs from off the green, including three from the fringe and another from the sand.

Otherwise, not including these, he holed 110 feet which, is even more incredible when it is over just 14 holes.

After 17 holes he had had 16 putts and he came to the 18th hole with a left-to-right breaking putt that just finished beneath the cup – it was one of only four holes in which he recorded more than one putt on a green.

“I had no idea. I thought for sure someone would have had 17 for some reason. I felt like I was hitting lots of nice shots that were just going off the green, and I made a couple of them. That’s just how it went, but still a pretty cool record.”
