My Masters Pick

What a rollercoaster ride of a few weeks it has been for Ian Poulter. In fact, its been a heck of a year for the man from Woburn; this time last year he was outside the top 200 in the world and really struggling to even keep his playing privileges. Now he’s back inside the top 30 in the world after his first win in 6 years, got a shiny trophy sat on his mantelpiece and now is at one of the top courses in the world playing one of the top events in the world.

He’s a typical example of what you can if you put your mind to something. Having turned pro at the very high end of the qualifying handicap range, he’s fought and ground out results whilst becoming synonymous with the Ryder Cup. Quite convenient that his resurrection as a tour pro has come in a Ryder Cup year…! I think it’s safe to say that he’ll be in Paris, and not just as a vice-captain this time.

As a Bunker favourite, he’s my tip of the week for this week at Augusta. I don’t think there’s a more streaky player than Poults, and while he’s in the form that he is, it’d be hard to go against him. He seems to have a fairly consistent record around Augusta National, with a highest place finish of 7th in 2012 – the year when he was riding high as a top ten guy. Yes he’s a bit older than some of the other guys in the field, but with age in golf comes experience. A prime example of this would be at last night’s Par 3 Contest, where Tom Watson rolled back the years and rolled in the putts to win around the immaculate par 3 course at Augusta. Yes its only on a short pitch and putt, but he still had the game to fend off all the youngsters. This is why I see Poulter as being the guy to beat this week. So much so I’ve even had a little wager on him…..

We at Bunker HQ would love to hear your picks for The Masters, so head on over to Facebook and Twitter ( @bunkerstyle or @bunkertom1 ) and tell us who your money is on and why.
