As Masters Week is upon us, we thought we might just have a look at the most important meal of the year....the Champion Dinner.
With The Masters being the most traditional of all the majors, this is a great ongoing part of Masters week. As if winning the Masters wasn't special enough, getting a yearly invite to then sit down to a meal with fellow peers who are seen as legends of the game is one privilage that the majority of the golfing world will never be a part of.
This year's host, defending champion Scottie Scheffler, has released his chosen menu, so here are our thoughts on it:
STARTER - CHEESEBURGER SLIDERS or FIRECRACKER SHRIMP
Only an American could pick burgers as a starter! Not too sure what some of the older members of the Champions Dinner will make of it, and its divided opinions here in Bunker HQ. Although when it comes to a choice between that and a fancy prawn cocktail, sliders wins hands down.
SOUP COURSE - TORTILLA SOUP
We absolutely think this is more of a starter. If you haven't already filled up enough on your burgers, why not fill up on a big bowl of soup too. Tomato or Chicken is a firm favourite within Bunker Mentality, so this seems a little too out there for us.
MAIN COURSE - TEXAS RIBEYE STEAK OR BLACKENED REDFISH - SERVED WITH MAC & CHEESE, CREAMED CORN, SPROUTS & FRIES
Sorry to all the vegetarians and vegans out there, but....HOW GOOD DOES THIS SOUND!? Yes its basically a stereotypical American dinner, but what is wrong with that? Again, as with the first two courses, its not for the faint hearted, and if you're leaving hungry after all this then there is definitely something wrong with you. A crowd pleaser at any table.
PUDDING - WARM CHOCOLATE CHIP SKILLET COOKIE
If the food coma hasn't already hit then it certainly will do after this. Another American classic, another crowd pleaser.....Scottie is certainly trying to make friends (although maybe not those sat at the "kids" [LIV] table. We're predicting there won't be many around that will finish this, so watch out for leftovers being passed around to those with the sweetest of tooths.
Not a bad effort at all, Mr. Scheffler. Certainly hearty fare, maybe not first choice items within the walls of Bunker Mentality, but we wouldn't say no if we were there. If that doesn't wet your appetite for the weekend ahead then we don't know what will.
