Is Brooks Koepka on his way to LIV?

If you were a betting person then you might want to have a sizeable punt on Brooks Koepka joining up with the LIV Golf gang. There is a rumour that the Saudi-backed league is set to unveil a 'four-time major winner' – the other four-timer is Rory McIlroy and that's not going to happen.

Bizarrely, until Koepka is announced, his brother Chase is already part of the LIV Golf crowd. Chase is ranked outside the top 1500 players in the world and it wouldn't take a huge leap of faith to suggest that this was part of the package.

And then there was his utterly unconvincing pre-tournament press conference at Brookline this week. Koepka has been recuperating from an injury as well as getting married and he was naturally asked whether he is planning to stay with the PGA Tour?

And, rather than offering the straightforward answer...

"There's been no other option to this point, so where else are you going to go?"

Let me think....LIV?

"As of last week. That's it. I wasn't playing last week. I'm here. I'm here at the US Open. I'm ready to play US Open, and I think it kind of sucks, too, you are all throwing this black cloud over the US Open. It's one of my favourite events. I don't know why you guys keep doing that. The more legs you give it, the more you keep talking about it."

All of which is fair enough but his answer will hold little water if, as it's thought, he signs up next week.

And then maybe the biggest whopper when he suggested that he hadn't really considered what it might take to tempt him to jump ship.

"I haven't given it that much thought. I don't understand. I'm trying to focus on the US Open, man. I legitimately don't get it. I'm tired of the conversations. I'm tired of all this stuff. Like I said, y'all are throwing a black cloud on the US Open. I think that sucks. I actually do feel bad for them for once because it's a shitty situation. We're here to play, and you are talking about an event that happened last week."

Time will tell, probably very soon, on how this one will play out.
