In Scotland? Visiting Dunes Golf Centre Is A Must!

PGA Professional Peter Myers, wife Emma and their son Billy moved from Yorkshire’s Hainsworth Park Golf Club to Fraserburgh in 2015 to take over the fabulous Dunes Golf Centre. The family friendly facility has a driving range, golf studio and a café offering everything from hearty breakfasts, fabulous burgers and afternoon tea. In addition, Peter is a “love.golf” coach, a fantastic initiative aimed at getting more women interested in golf and, critically, trying it for themselves. The focus of the coaching is to get on the course asap and the results speak for themselves; already literally hundreds of women have had coaching from Peter and many have subsequently joined local clubs as members. You just need to spend time at the Dunes Golf Centre to understand why this has been such a success – the emphasis is on creating a fun, relaxed environment where everyone (and I mean everyone) is made to feel very welcome. Personally it was the scones that clinched it for me but I have no doubt that the golf is just as good (today’s special was Apple and Cinnamon).

It was nice to see that it hasn’t taken the Myers family long to embrace the Scottish way of life – one of their most popular dishes is the Flying Scotsman, a burger with haggis, black pudding and cheese, all washed down with a can of Irn Bru. Now if that doesn’t put 50 yards on your drive, nothing will. By the way, they haven’t forgotten their Yorkshire roots – chips and gravy are on the menu too and that can be washed down with a nice brew of Yorkshire tea!

Peter and the team are a great example of all that is great about our game – enthusiasm, professionalism and never afraid to try something different to move things forward. In many ways, the perfect partner for Bunker Mentality – a refreshing change from the same old. Look out for a new Bunker Mentality section just in time for the new season in Spring 2018.
