How MacIntyre could gain his PGA Tour card
Robert MacIntyre could guarantee his place on the PGA Tour should he have a good week at this week's Wyndham Championship. The Scot, who was handed an invite, has accepted Special Temporary Membership to the tour after his 15th place in last week's WGC-FedEx St Jude Invitational and he could take that a step further with another big showing.
Should he finish in the top eight that should be enough to secure his PGA Tour card by having as many points as the golfer 125th in the standings – to date MacIntyre has 341 non-member FedExCup points but all those starts have come through the world rankings and not as a member.
In his 12 starts the 25-year-old has only missed two cuts and there has been a Masters debut, where he tied for 12th, and the 8th in the Open where he enjoyed a weekend of shooting 65-67 in Kent. On the European Tour he hasn't missed a cut and is currently sitting in 13th spot on the Race to Dubai and remains a contender for a Ryder Cup debut.
It's been a highly impressive run by the Scot who played in the Walker Cup as recently as 2017. Since then he now has one win, in Cyprus last year, hasn't missed a cut in seven majors and he is 49th in the world.
Not being a member, whatever happens this week, MacIntyre won’t be able to compete in the FedEx Cup play-off series.
